Theory
So,
your secretary buys several boxes of BIC biros, let's say a box of 20 blue,
5 boxes of black and 2 boxes of red. She didn't buy any green BICs
but you're in a good mood so you don't mention it . Now a BIC is
one tough, long-lasting Hombre and logically you think that, at a wastage
rate of 1 pen per month (Not such a tough target for a BIC under normal
use), the pens should last over 13 years (1 box = 20 pens X 8 boxes = 160
pens/months = 13.3 years).
Reality
You get
your self a set of those gorgeous new BIC babies, a Blue (for best), a
Red (for emphasis) and a Black (day-to-day). Damn that forgetful
bitch for not getting a box of green!!! (for really extra special best).
They remain on your desk for 2, maybe 3, days
before vanishing. You
look around nearby desks for them, you'd know them anywhere because you
nibble the little end plugs out with your front teeth and spit them at
your PC, but they're GONE!!!!
No
problemo, you pay a visit to the stationary cupboard and pick up
the box of blues.....
EMPTY!!!!
as are the other boxes.
-
No one EVER throws a working
BIC biro pen away that's still in good condition
-
A percentage get so badly chewed
that the barrel decays into shards of translucent plastic. These
are trashed and never fulfill their destiny.
-
The pen tops are not allowed
to leave with the BIC biro pen, they must remain on the desktop or in the
little tray of paperclips.
-
The boxes that once contained
them remain forever empty in the stationary cupboard. Their role?
To give the impression that the BIC biro pens are still within. (Delaying
tactic?)
Fact
BIC
Co. have produced over 37 squillion BIC biro pens. At their last
cencus only 25 thousand BIC biro pens remain !!!!
